LAOAG CITY, May 20 – Geared with paint brush, bolo and cleaning materials, 500 volunteers from different sectors showcased the bayanihan spirit at the Ilocos Norte National High School (INNHS) quadrangle in spite of unfavorable weather condition joining others in the country in the launching of the 10th anniversary of DepEd’s volunteer program, Brigada Eskwela Plus which aims at ensuring the readiness of all public schools and educational facilities for the opening of classes in June.

Brigada Eskwela Plus is an effort to maximize the potential of the brand Brigada Eskwela as a venue for community involvement and empowerment in public education throughout the school year.

“The Brigada Eskwela Hall of Fame Award accorded to us validates our dedication and commitment towards achieving quality education. May the “Bayanihan Spirit” forever burn as we combine our efforts and resources in the implementation of this endeavor,” enthused INNHS Principal IV, Mrs. Isabel Sison-Sandi during the kick-off ceremony.

Sandi together with Supreme Student Government (SSG) President Inna Christine R. Cabel, led this year’s National Schools Maintenance Week, more widely known as Brigada Eskwela, with schedule of activities from May 20-25, 2013.

Educational stakeholders led by Mr. Primo Jay S. Ramos, INNHS-IGPTA President, pledged their commitment and resources as INNHS’ partners in ensuring a safe and conducive environment for learning.

SSG pooled an initial Php1M-worth of resources-in-kind as of first day.

This year’s Brigada carries the theme “INNHS Kapamilya, Sama-sama tayong mag-Brigada Eskwela” patterned after the national theme “Isang Dekada ng Bayanihan sa Paaralan.”
