Shamcey Supsup: Real Winner

by Katheryne S. Castillo

The world’s most beautiful and stunning ladies contended for one most coveted international beauty title, one legendary crown, one honor -Miss Universe 2011 estimated to have one billion viewers around the world. One of these 89 ladies is our pride - Miss Shamcey Supsup.

In the Q&A portion, judge Vivica A. Fox asked her: “Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person that you love? Why or why not?”

Supsup straightly answered “If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person I love is God, who created me. I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God, too.”

This straightforward and spontaneous answer made her top the online fan ranking during the Miss Universe question and answer portion which made Filipinos believe that she would definitely win the crown.

Add the fact that she placed second in the online ranking for the evening gown competition.

But what had the judges missed to see in Supsup that they were able to see in Miss Angola? The question is simply a matter of the relativity of one’s criteria to beauty and intelligence. The judges had their own perception and their choice might as well got affected by their own biases. Like us, they might have their own favorites, too.

Miss Angola may (or may not) be wittier, more stunning and more beautiful than our very own Supsup but for us Filipinos known for our strong “personalism,” she will always be number ONE and the real Miss Universe 2011.

Kudos Miss Shamcey Gurrea Supsup!
