Special Education: Catering With Students With Special Needs

About INNHS SPED

SPED dedicates itself to the development of students with special needs and extremely difficult circumstances by teaching necessary skills and competencies to ensure their needs. As part of the State’s Mission and Vision to promote the right of every individual to relevant quality education regardless of sex, age, creed, socioeconomic status, physical and mental condition, the Department of Education (DepEd) has been trying to promote and maintain equality of access to education not only for the regular students but also for the students with special needs.

With this goal, the SPED class has adopted the curriculum prescribed by DepEd for regular schools but has modified it to meet the unique needs of the students. These modifications include: offering of special subjects (language, speech and sign language); the use of English and Filipino as the medium of instruction; the simplification of course contents and increasing the time allotment of needed subject areas.

The SPED class has the goal to meet the academic needs of the students and most of all to prepare them for the opportunities available after graduation, if they are unable to proceed to college. To provide the students a holistic approach to education, some educational activities are also offered with a regular coordination with the school administration, parents and students.
